[mythtv-users] FireWire capture doesn't work after reboot until I rmmod/modprobe FireWire modules...why?

I've gotten my upgraded MythTV box mostly dialed in now (went from an Athlon XP
3000 to an Athlon 64 3700, and replaced three hard drives with one that's
bigger by itself than the old drives put together). It's running Gentoo Linux
2005.1 for AMD64, and I have MythTV Subversion build 8444 running. For
capture, I'm still using a PVR-350, PVR-250, and an SA3250HD hanging off a
FireWire port.

I'm having a problem with FireWire capture not wanting to work after a reboot,
though. Neither test-mpeg2 nor mythbackend will capture from the cable box
until I unload the FireWire modules and reload them. If I load raw1394 and
then dv1394, it always appears to work properly until the next reboot.

Adding these modules to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 to make sure they
load in this order doesn't make any difference. I've had half a thought to
unload/reload the FireWire modules in /etc/conf.d/local.start and edit
/etc/init.d/mythbackend so it depends on /etc/init.d/local, but that sounds a
bit too hackish for long-term use. Is there a correct way to get FireWire
capture working reliably after a reboot?

(I've seen this behavior with both VIA- and TI-based FireWire cards. I have a
FireWire/USB 2.0 combo card with an Agere FireWire controller that (IIRC)
worked properly from a cold start, but rebooting caused a hang while loading
ehci-hcd.ko and it wouldn't boot up again until the card was physically removed
from the computer. There's a chance that may have been some weirdness with
Linux 2.6.13 that was fixed in 2.6.14, or maybe it's some weird conflict with
the motherboard and/or chipset. I'm using an Abit KN8, which is an nForce4
Socket 939 board.)
