I would guess that you're running your X server as maybe 'root', and 
trying to run mythtv-setup as 'you'.... or visa-versa. Somewhere there 
must be an 'su' somewhere. Before doing the su, do an 'xhost +'; this 
will enable 'anyone' to connnect to the xserver. There are most likely 
much more elegant solutions.... but this has always worked for me.
