[mythtv-users] All I Want to do is Use ALSA - 1.0.11

I am having the same problem. I have spent the last three days trying to fix my
Myth box. It was working before with FC4 and Myth 0.18, but I wanted to try the
IVTV fix for my PVR-500 with Samsung tuners which called for a kernel upgrade to
2.6.15. I decided to upgrade to Myth 0.19 at the same time. I decided to do a
clean install and, as usual, followed Jarod's HowTo (thanks Jarod!). After audio
setup, I did a reboot and began to get errors indicating "Bad page state at
free_hot_cold_page..." After much searching, I discovered that this is because of
an Alsa 1.0.10 problem with kernel 2.6.15. The suggestion was upgrade Alsa to
1.0.11rc3 or downgrade the kernel. Since I need the fix for Samsung tuners, I
decided to try my first effort at compiling: I followed the instructions at
<http://alsa2.opensrc.org/Quick_Install>
and
<http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php>

No matter what I do, I am still running 1.0.10 and I don't know what to try next.
Dylan's point may be similar to my problem, though there is no Alsa related stuff
under either /usr/local or under /usr (neither 1.0.10 or 1.0.11rc3). I will try
the Alsa lists for help, but thought I would point out that at least one other person
is experiencing the Alsa problem as Michael.

{P.S. As a total newbie, I've never posted to a mailing list...
I hope I did it properly. If not, I apologize. Thank you all for any help you may be
able to provide, as well as the help I've gotten so far by just lurking.}

When you compiled 1.0.11 it installed under /usr/local unless you
defined a different path using --prefix. So you probably still have
1.0.10 installed under /usr and now 1.0.11 installed under /usr/local.
 Do you really need to compile manually? You might consider tracking
down a packaged version of 1.0.11 for your distro and install it -
that should replace 1.0.10 automatically.
