Greetings. From one Nerd to others.......

I have begun my journey into DVR and after several weeks of review...
settled on MythTV.

Current System:
PIV 512MB RAM ATI Capture card (CX23880)
ATI AGP Video card
Creative Labs SB Audigy (rev 04) (Audigy 2 adapter)

************
Install experiance was good so far due to some of the quick links
http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/
Original posting to try to get help was on the webforum which is not so
active as I was hoping.

Only a few notes on setup which once I get to know this open source
project more may post to those maintainers to put into their distro
specific instructions.
1) Autologin for the default of KDE requires GDM to be set to KDE vs FC6
default which even if the DM is set to KDE still uses GDM:
"echo DISPLAYMANAGER=KDE >>/etc/sysconfig/desktop"
2) For setting up Zap2it for channel downloads make sure to do this
first then run:
"tv_grab_na_dd --configure" to input username and password to verify
that you are getting downloads of your selected channel information.
3) Nobody seems to note (for people like me who want to see it work on
our analog TV .... at least till I can convince my wife to go HDTV... )
that display settings need to be 640x480 max or they will get to see
Linux boot... then go black on TV as it goes into higher default
resolution on monitor for XWindows.

*********************************
Close ... but O' So Far:
(outstanding issues, and yes I did some digging, albiet basic, on the
forum and google)

1) My XWindows has this fun issue of when you start the frontend
automaticly .. it fires up fine but seems to not be able to grab the
full color pallet. It shows up with what looks to be only a basic 8bit
pallet so looks like <ahem> crud(I can send screen shot if if matters).
This I am sure is a video resoluton setting for my ATI card but I am at
a loss as to where to start on this one.

2) My Zap2IT account works fine adn I have my channels (via their
website showing). I can test locally via:
[mythtv at medusa ~]$ tv_grab_na_dd
using config filename /home/mythtv/.xmltv/tv_grab_na_dd.conf
Fetching from DataDirect: Fetched 2912 k/bytes in 5 seconds

......but I seem to have issues with getting any channel infomation as
MythTV does not seem to understand how to use these credentials:

......so I am likly missing some menue option to input the Zap2it
credentials within the MythTV setup.

3) When I hook my video card up to my TV via the S-Video connection I
can see the system post, start Linux, and watch the init structure. As
soon as it goes over to XWindows (aka loads desktop etc) the TV seems to
loose Sync and goes funky. It is likely a video card setting I need to
fix. Any direction on this? (PS: I can Alt+F1 over to a shell and keep
working just fine on the TV)

That is all. I am so close I can taste live TV!!!! I just need some RTFM
directions to get this thing working..

Look forward to learning so in time I can 'learn others"..
