Hello,

I'm new to this list and I'm very impressed by MythTV, it's a great piece of
software.

I was able to use my FF nexus-s card (rev 2.1) on my office workstation with
3.0GHz HT processor with MythTV.

Then I decided to activate an old pc with 700Mhz PIII for use with MythTV.
I supposed this hardware to be sufficient for one DVB-S card.
It now appears that this is not true.
When starting DVB-S live tv either with MythTV/mythfrontend or with kaffeine
processor utilisation goes up to 60-70% and X and/or mythbackend/mysqld use
the remainder of the processor.
I know that running mythfrontend, mythbackend and mysqld on the same machine
is not the best choice.

Now to my question:
Is dvbtt-pci/kaffeine/MythTV supposed to use the hardware mpeg decoder on the
nexus-s card ?
Why is processor utilisation that high on linux compared to windows (see
below) ?

Environment:
OpenSuSE 10.1

Tests on 3.0GHz HT machine showed the following results viewing live tv:
Using OpenSuSE 10.1 and kaffeine: 10-20% processor utilisation.
Using WinXP and ProgDVB: 2-4% processor utilisation.

Any comment would by greatly appreciated.
Thank you all.

Andreas
