Chris,

I like the idea of a special rule rather than a special codec or
recording profile, since the rule wouldn't be associated with a normal
input source or program schedule.  I think the best solution would
have MythTV launch the external program at the appropriate time --
this would allow standard priority semantics to apply, so that if
you've scheduled your favorite movie ever at the same time as a
regular radio recording your radio recording would get preempted.

This would be a nice general solution for doing things with encoder
cards outside of myth.
