Sounds like your programs are supposed to be in 16:9 aspect ratio.  
Try checking that in the playback menu, see if that fixes it. If not,  
then there must be something wrong with your capture settings.

There should be something in the playback options menu (Options, TV,  
Playback, you get the idea).
