I was wondering about this when poking through mythtv-setup the other
day. I also have this particular mythtv-setup setting at "NTSC," but I
note that "ATSC" was also a choice.

I don't have any analog encoder cards at all; just two FireWire and
one ATSC capture card outputting to a 1080p display. Thus, I think the
setting is used to define the meaning of "Default" for individual
channels in the mythtv-channel editor.
