Where?

I am quite possibly missing the obvious, but why does the backend need
the frontend's actual IP address?

Mythfrontend, during the setup process, of course requests the
backend's hostname (or IP address), which you can provide. The
converse isn't true. Now, there's that whole "permitting SQL access
from hostnames other than localhost" issue, but that's a whole another
story.
