I've just finished fighting with this on my FC4 build. I was able to
solve the problem by using ALSA:spdif instead of ALSA:digital which
never did what I wanted it to. However, I don't have the nvidia chip,
but rather a VT8233, so I don't know if this will help you. Apparently,
the ALSA:spdif is a catchall alias and the HW should figure it out. Good
