TTBOMK, lack of a message with a version of Myth compiled to use LIRC 
means that it successfully connected.  If your Myth is compiled to use 
LIRC and it fails, it provides an error message.

To see if your Myth was compiled with LIRC support, you can (and, IIRC, 
you have already) use ldd to see what libraries mythfrontend links against.
