I understand there is a delay of some seconds, that, in other words,
one is not watching in
real time

The problem with the zap2it approach is the scheduling where I live:
Saipan, a small island where Cable channels are a mixed bag: a few
live satellite channels, like CNN and ESPN; a number of recorded
"mainland" channels from the US, timeshifted---a week late; and some
Australian channels, like Animal Planet and Discovery, which one isn't
sure what the shifting is of time.

I was able to type in channel numbers and my own names ("CNN", "Animal
Planet", etc.) as I wished, and view, at one point. It is mentioned
in passing in the docs I have seen, but nowhere is it discussed
explicitly. Ie, what is involved, how to do it.

Thank you very much for your discussion.

Alan
