Just to let people know who have the same problem.
I exchanged my NEC drive with a BENQ DW1655, which is silent like a Consmer
Electronics(CE) device. Unlike the NEC, It responds to the speed settings
with hdparm. hdparm -E4 /dev/hdc works like a charm.
BENQ drives are developed by Philips, so I suspect all their drives and
others that are developed by Philips honour the speed settings. Does anyone
know if LG drives react to hdparm -Ex
Now I can concentrate on the second problem: playvback of recorded programs
drifts away from the indexes, so that after a few minutes into the program,
skip forward and skip back don't get you to the expected position.
Has anyone seen this? (and solved it:-)
