grrr... why linux is slower than windows reason #412423: program windows
close slower. so you click the close button twice. which registers 2 clicks,
the second is saved for whatevers undernethe the first. which was the
following (now re-written) message that took ages to write. and now i gotta
do it all again. moop. but...
yay. works. over network too. can't believe it. *don't touch anything*...
*document things*...
linux suse 10.0 + mythtv 0.19 networked to an xp machine, gets internet
through adsl modem connected to the linux box.
xp ip: 192.168.0.1
xp subnet: 255.255.255.0
workgroup: MSHOME
all firewalls off.
suse 10.0 > yast > network settings > network card > edit (correct card).
ststic ip address: CHECKED
ip: 192.168.0.3
sub: 255.255.255.0
>host name and nameserver
hostname: trefpc2csf3 (original hostname set by previous network)
domain name: MSHOME
change hosname via dhcp: UN-CHECKED
update nameservers via dhcp: CHECKED (though accept auto settings from adsl
model - isp's name servers)
>routing
default gateway > 192.168.0.1
expert config UN-CHECKED
enable ip forwarding: UN-CHECKED
/home/christopher/.mythtv/mysql.txt (and all other users versions of the
same file) contains the line
DBHostName=localhost
in prompt on linux, type (detailed at
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-6.html#ss6.2)
mysql
mysql> use mythconverg
mysql> grant all on mythconverg.* to mythtv@"%" identified by "mythtv";
mysql> flush privileges;
and in mythtv-setup:
ip address for trefpc2csf3 (or your hostname): 192.168.0.3
master server ip: 192.168.0.3
and the suse firewall is on.
and that, i believe, is that. the key came when i saw this
http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:5s9raZNJQ28J:www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-9.html+Unexpected+response+to+MYTH_PROTO_VERSION&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=2&client=firefox-a
and changed BOTH ip addresses in mythtv-setup to the same as my network
connection's ip. that and an infinite amount of backend restarting.
and it's still working, though i've no doubt it'll mysteriously stop after a
restart.
now i just neet to get the channels scanning.
thanks to all who helped. now someone code some automatic configuration
script already.
