I use a modded X-Box.  Other than the menus being a little slow, it works
great for me.
There's also the Hauppauge Media MVP, and the the Roku PhotoBridge HD.  I've
never used either of these, but they look like they're small and quiet.
I'm pretty sure they only play mpeg2 recordings, but the Roku will play HD.
