        I'm not sure I was clear -- I didn't mean to use a different
video resolution.   That just moves the upscaling to the TV instead of
the video card and I agree that will probably look equally bad.  What I
meant was to use a modeline with the same timing as the native
resolution but with a smaller display area (making it look like a
severely underscanned picture).  You get the same effect as "zooming
out" -- a smaller screen more appropriate for the viewing distance.
