[mythtv-users] MPEG-4 Simple@L3 and MPEG2 to MPEG-4 AVC H.264 transcoding

I am using two Plextor MPEG-4 hardware boxes connected to my cable TV
set top boxes. The first problem I have is that if I go into Recording
Profiles and select USB MPEG-4 Encoder and edit the bit rate and save the
recordings still look the same and take up same amount of space. It does
not matter if I have it set to 100 kbps or 8000 (looks like it is using
2200Kbps for everything).

Second, how can I have myth transcode my MPEG2 (from HD3000 card) and
MPEG-4 from my Plextor card to H.264? I have ffmpeg installed with x264,
but have not been able to find out how to make this work on Google.
