Hi,

In my quest for small/quiet/cheap frontend, I found IO-Data AVeL LP2.
Its a network ready DVD Player which has both Windows and Linux
server. The firmware on the LP2 is not hackable yet, but the server
code is available. Buffalo Link Theater's is a similar product but few
months behind AVeL LP2. Roku HD1000 is probably another similar
product but doesn't have all the features etc.

Website for iodata LP2 is
http://www.iodata.com/products/products.php?cat=HNP&sc=AVEL&pId=AVLP2%2FDVDLA&ts=2&tsc=15.

Also, on AVS Forum, there is a big (150+) pages discussion and a FAQ
about it also. But seems like its mostly window's oriented.

I'm interested in watching shows recorded in HD and stored at the
backend. Its okay right now if I dont get full myth frontend features.
My basic needs are watching HD recorded shows.

Another question, can I do a pseudo-timeshift in myth backend ? If a
file is being written by the myth recorder in a directory, can I open
it read-only mode and start watching it ? AVeL LP2 lets you browse
files/directories on the server. So, if I know the directory where the
files are being written, I can open that file and start watching the
show that is being recorded.

Watching live TV may be harder as you need to deal with cache buffers
etc. May be the LP2's linux server can be hacked to do that :-)

Just looking for any pointers.

Thanks

Mudit
