mostly : /var/log

.exe is something not necessary. executable files are just executables and 
don't depend on an extension. It has been like that even before MS got 
involved :-)

Good, persistence will get you there.

Perhaps you can just start with a guide like Jarod's and add things to that 
for real new Linux users. Perhaps some more in depth information about the 
issued commands and links to background information which is valid for Fedora 
(if people use google, they will often find a lot of outdated information).

If you like programmable remotes, I can advice you a Philips pronto.
Just look for one on ebay I suggest. I bought the ru890 (lower type) and it's 
very nice to have all software controlled by this and use your own icons per 
function :
