Just upgraded to 2.6.14-suspend2-r7 myself. I used the ebuild here
for lirc-0.8.0:

I also had to edit /etc/conf.d/lircd 
    LIRCD_OPTS="-d /dev/lirc0"
    LIRCD_OPTS="-d /dev/lirc/0"
