RTFM.... required for SAA7134 is kernel 2.6.12 AND the CVS from linuxtv.org!
Despite the fact that a module exists in 2.6.12 for the SAA7134 based tuners,
it doesn't work for the DVB-T300! I've gotten the CVS from linuxtv.org and
compiled it and voila! All works fine.

Any suggestions of what to do or where to go to for help would be fantastic, I look like a right wally to my wife now...!

There was an entry in /etc/modprobe.d/saa7134 with a whole lot of
options that the new module didn't recognise, I've removed all the
options except what was specified on Overclockers.com.au and the module
loads successfully now. (All cheer.)
