I can't speak to Shaw but Rogers definetly has their FW ports disabled
on their SA 3250 HD.  I think without the legal motivation, that
exists in the US with FCC legislation, its unlikely providers in
Canada will offer Firewire access.

That said, have you tried plugging into the FW port?  I tested my SA
3250 and it was fairly obvious the port wasn't responding.
