I don't know if I would try ~x86.  I don't have any experience with that.

In my experience, it's few and far between new versions of mythtv in
portage.  If I recall correctly, there was only 1 version of 12, 13,
and 14, and now 2 of 15 (15 and 15.1).  I use the ~x86 version and
haven't upgraded very often.
