Friend of mine had similar issue, not sure if this will work for you though:
After removing the "1024x768" resolution from the xorg.conf file (/etc/X11/)
I believe in the display section, all things went ok... only downside is
that your KDE will run in 800x600 as well, but hey, who cares!
