Do MythTV filenames have any hint as to what they contain?
In other words would they be closer to 20041012.mpg or to
Nova.2004.10.12.mpg

The quick-and-dirty reply to this is to use mythweb for scheduling
recordings (a screen reader should take care of that well enough even in
windows/macos), and to use nuvexport on the commandline to export shows
into whatever format you want (since you don't need to actually watch
them, you could use the relatively fast mp3 exporter), and then just
play them by hand on the commandline.
