I'm new to Linux.
Recently upgraded with Jarod's guide to FC2 and Myth 0.16.
Had two small problems with my setup. 1. Monitor (TV) kept powering
off after 30 mins or so and 2. had to manualy start lirc after
rebooting.
tried Jarod's recommendation of:
#echo "/usr/X11R6/bin/xset -dpms s off" >> /etc/rc.d/rc.local
but was monitor was still powering off.
In order to try to fix the above problems I tried the following:
for monitor problem:
edited my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and commented out: Option "dpms"
for lirc problem:
added the following to my rc.local file based upon a thread I'd seen
on this topic:
touch /var/lock/subsys/local
/sbin/modprobe lirc_i2c ## probing for kernel module for Hauppauge Remote
/sbin/service lircd start ##starts the lircd service
after making these changes I rebooted. The system started to come up
fine I could see text on my monitor during the reboot and then right
before the login prompt comes on the tv monitor goes blank. I can
type in my login and password (without seeing) and the system will
continue to login but I'm never able to see anything on the tv. If I
connect computer up to a monitor instead of TV everything works fine
(boots normal and I can see the display).
I changed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf files and rc.local files back to the
way they were before I messed with them but I still get the same
problem with my TV monitor after rebooting. Can anyone help me
restore my system?
I'm using GForce4 MX440 for video out with s-video connection to my TV.
thanks,
John
