That's a matter of opinion, not a fact. I've had zero hassles and 
excellent picture quality with my nVidia cards. My Radeon is generally 
okay, but there are really heinous Xv rendering bugs in both the radeon 
driver and the fglrx driver (that only affect HDTV-rez video though).

The TV-out encoder interlaces the signal for use on an interlaced 
display when connected by SVideo or Composite. It is far from useless. 
The main place the lack of interlaced mode support bites you is if you 
have an HDTV and are using VGA or DVI out, but the next release from 
nVidia will reportedly support interlaced modes.

The quality of the nvidia driver's TV-out is very solid, and CPU load 
is extremely low.

nVidia cards are far from worthless with an interlaced display, like a 
standard-def TV, and hopefully, within a few days, they'll have full 
interlaced mode support. My recommendation: don't go buy a new card 
yet. The one you've got is used by tons of MythTV users quite 
successfully, myself included.
