FWIW, I went through pretty much this exact process a few weeks ago.

I'm using an Athlon XP 2200+ (1.8GHz) and it is far more than I need.

No.  I have 256MB and it is more than adequete.

I don't know about those particular cards, but again, if it's
well-supported including Xv, it should be fine.

That's more than you need with a PVR250/PVR350.
