A 30 minute show being extended to 36 minutes is consistent with recording 
at NTSC frame rate (30fps) but playing back at PAL frame rate (25fps):
    30fps * 30 minutes / 25fps = 36 minutes

Maybe the frame rate is being stored wrongly in the video file - try 
running the video through mplayer and seeing what it says the frame rate 
is.
