This branch of the thread reminded me of an idea I had a while ago.

Has anyone played around with a multiple-USB drive variant of software
RAID? Could this be done easily enough with LVM directly, or would it
require some additional tweaking/coding?

...and for something a little freakier... What if, when adding a *ROM
media device of some kind to the storage cluster, the data is
automagically integrated into the bulk storage mass? What if, when
adding a significantly smaller RW device to the cluster, like a Flash
drive, files stored on the device are integrated into the cluster and
the option automagically presents itself to copy data to the device?
All other bulk HDD devices get assimilated into the collective storage
space.

Just another brain-fart... ;-)

Andrew.
