The X10 remotes (ATI Remote wonder) are RF and they do work through the 
walls and a floor away.  But there are a lot of nulls at that point. 
Howerever it still worked for me.  If you are sending wires around your 
could get some long usb extenders and pass that throught the floor with 
your cables (or even an ir remote receiver)
