I strongly suspect that this would not, in fact help, and might well
hurt: you need processor power for whatever decoding you're doing as
well, and if you steal that for your X server, you're screwed.

There Is No Silver Bullet.  If you have a specific problem, hunt it
down and kill it, but that probably ain't the solution.
