I built up an SN41G2 (Athlon / nForce 2) box to use for Myth, with an
Athlon 2500+ and a PVR-250. It's pretty quiet compared to a normal PC.
The fan has two (or more?) speeds, though. It's very noisy when it
boots, then it throttles down somewhat and it quietens things off. It
speeds back up if the machine gets too hot.
With the fan running "slow", the SN41G2 is quiet enough to have on all
the time in a living room, especially if you're going to be sat more
than 6ft away, or if you live in a city where there's constant low
background noise. But if you're somewhere very quiet, and certainly if
it's going to be placed in a hot room, then the noise may bug you.
Craig.
