No, it's not the same.  The driver support _is not there_ yet for other 
distributions.  You _have_ to use one of the distributions supported by the 
VIA driver release for this to work right now.  Otherwise, you don't have a 
matched set of kernel modules, libddmpeg, and X drivers.  The source releases 
don't match up (different structure contents/sizes, etc).  It should work 
eventually, but unless you're going to do some actual development instead of 
just compiling things, discussing things is really just a waste of time.
