Knoppix == Debian with auto detection scripts on a compressed CD-ROM
 -> http://www.knoppix.de/

It comes with a Perl script that can put the uncompressed system (uhm,
1700MB) on your HD and removes the most autodetect scripts. The config
files (written by the autodetect scripts) get copied over though. So
basicaly you have a Debian system afterwards.

There is/are a tiny version too (~150MB iso). If you strip out KDE you'll
end up with an even smaller system.

AFAIK, they are currently working on getting the system to GCC 3.2 (KDE3.x
needs it).
