I may resort to that Roy, although, I hope the suggestions of just
loading a missing module helps.

I had nothing BUT trouble getting LIRC to work from the CVS.  The
problem
wasn't the cvs though.  Just uninstalling lirc doesn't get rid of it in
my
experience.  You will have to hunt down and remove all the lirc files on
your system

locate lirc

will find most of them but make sure you also remove

irw
and
irxevent

after you have gotten rid of them update your locate database (updatedb)
and
search again just to make sure.

Once I wiped those out and redownloaded the CVS completely.  (I rm -R'd
my
old lirc cvs dir.) it worked right away.
