I got bored with Red Had and decided to give Gentoo a try... So far, it
is working a little better. I do have sound on the board (I followed
the gentoo alsa how-to) but it is not always recognized by MythTV (I
think other people have mentioned this problem here).

It worked... But the sound issue is what drove me away from Red Hat
(that and some issues I had with their grub conf setup and my inability
to recompile bootable kernels).

Anyway, now with gentoo, some things are better, some are not. I get
sound everywhere except in MythTV I emerged it according to the doc. I
tried building everything with alsa and oss (in the use) or only with
alsa and it still does not seem to work reliably.

Recently, I also got errors when trying to start mythbackend (unable to
connect to port 6*** - don't remember the exact error and I am not in
front of my linux box now). I did setup the mysql thing as per
instructions so I don't know what is wrong...

Nothing is ever easy!

Etienne
