[mythtv-users] Feature suggestion Away programming

Just as a suggestion, my thoughts, for anyone who reads this thread...

I think that perhaps it might be a better idea (and more general
approach) to implement this such that each recording might have a
viewing priority.

Maybe we could tell if the disk is too full for a new recording to
start. Or if that is not an easy thing to tell because of variable
bitrates then within XYZ Mb user definable. If this is the case, and
viewing priority is higher than something already on the disk then
remove the file on disk and record the new show. Otherwise, ditch the
new show and keep a log of the fact.

It would probably be wise to add a "DO NOT DELETE EVER!#@!" flag to the
recording before this was implemented too, although this could be
accomplished by setting the viewing priority of that recorded show to
the highest priority. Still, it seems an ugly way to do it.

The other half of this is that I really don't know if anything I've said
is already implemented already. I may be issuing goobertalk here.
Anyway, patches are better than ideas, I know. When I get a machine to
run Myth then I'll see about hacking this in. (Read: no money, no time
soon).

Subject: [mythtv-users] Feature suggestion Away programming

Something to put on the wish list... Normally I have a
set of common / daily programs I have myth set to record
for me. Then there are the "I don't want to miss shows".

Problem comes for those of us without tons of disk space
when we leave home for a few days so the file space
would fill up quickly with the daily programming,
pehaps missing the "can't miss" shows.

It would be nice to have the ability to identify shows
as "normal" and "away". Then when you leave town for a
few days, easily set the "away" flag causing all the
"normal" daily shows to not be recorded, leaving room
for the other "can't miss" shows. Asit stands now,
I have to unprogram all the daily shows before I leave,
then repropram them when I get back.

An auto delete could also help this problem, but I
think the normal/away flag is more straight forward
and reliable.

Thoughts?
Brian
