what i do is just use a splitter and then plug the coax into the tv and the 
mythtv box.  that way i can watch tv normally and have pvr functionality.  
that way i can also watch one show and record another at the same time.  
this also slolves the problem of slow channel changing.

not the solution you were looking for, but it works.
