is your friend!! This doe a search on idle noise. 
I've gotten myself a Seagate Cuda 7200.7 (160gb, ATA). I've very happy with the silence it produces. ANd about the maxtor, DO RECONSIDER! It shows up as quite silent, but maxtors amongst eachother vary a lot.

yeah, 256 should be enough as well, if it's for dedicated movie stuff.

If you really want quality in the tunercard, do get a hauppauge PVR-250. It comes at it's price, but damn I love it.


If you want to get of cheaper, try looking at a Nehemiah M10000 system. They're very cheap, need very little power, so in the long run it's very much cheaper then the AMD. And it includes hw mpeg2 decoding.
