Personally, I think that is just making things way too complex on the
user.  At some point, you're going to make it take more time to manage who
is actually in the room watching at any given moment to set the watched
flag, than to just have those secondary users mark themselves as watched on
their own time.  Automation is only useful when it's making you do less
work.

The only way I could see this getting any real use would be if the whole
thing happened automatically.  You can go the LinuxMCE route, require
everyone carry around cell phones, and then track them through
auto-connection to bluetooth dongles.  I have no intention of carrying my
cell phone everywhere.  You can use a webcam and some facial recognition
mechanism to see who is paying attention to the TV.  Either of which I'm
sure are well outside the scope of this patch.
