Tobias, could I suggest a slight alteration?

>From the frontend startup you can pick which users(!) are watching, this
should also ideally be available from the recordings screen via the menu
button. (You would likely need to set a primary and passive users - more of
this later)

Once you have watched a program a programme is marked as watched for the
users selected. When you have marked as watched it is automatically marked
as watched for all the users selected for that frontend.

The key is that multiple users can be selected as watching at the same time,
afterall watching tv tends to be a pseudo-social "activity".

In the theme there should be an element on all screens that indicates which
users are currently watching tv; this would be especially pertinent on
watch-recordings and menu screens.

The next challenge is multiple users setting their own recording rules, and
if multiple users are logged into a system when a recording rule was setup,
you would need to determine the priority, if two users setup a rule while
both logged in (or independantly set up to record the same programme while
independantly logged in) does that constitute a higher priority than one
person scheduling a conflicting programme to be recorded? To simplify this I
suggest that you have one primary user and several passive users where all
rules are setup by the primary user selected.
