Although it will certainly do no harm when all frontends and backends 
have the same revision number, AFAIK only the API-version reported 
should be the same.
The API version is bumped when there are fundamental changes made to the 
core of MythTV.

Devices talking over a network connection should additionally have the 
same network protocol IIRC as that is also bumped when there are changes 
in the network protocol.

These version can be found by adding the --version parameter to one of 
the executables (preferrably mythfrontend or mythbackend).
