I understand where you're coming from ... and I agree.

Unfortunately, the level of complexity required in backporting
something is far less than actually adding new features or identifying
a bug.

I didn't need to understand what the code does in anyway when I
backported that patch ; just had to look at how it modified the
original code and make the required (very small) changes... It's like
a logic game..

The other trouble is that I'm not a UI guy and 0.22 UI is currently
very unfinished, something I can't help with.
Even if I were to fix stuff on trunk, it would still not be usable for
me. While after getting something added on 0.21-fixes, I can actually
use mythtv as my main system.

And finally, I don't have svn writing access. So if I submit a mod, I
would need to wait a long time before it gets applied (that's my
experience so far) which is not only frustrating and so each time
there's an update, I would have to port my own change over and over to
the continually changing trunk.
