All of this should be possible through the theme though and there is no need 
to create special widgets to do the job. A themer might choose to overlay the 
status and clock in such a way that only one is visible at a time, but 
another might choose to position the clock and status separately.

So I'm not saying that it's a bad idea to display the information in this way, 
just that we don't need a new, single purpose widget to do it. The UI code 
permits us this flexibility already.
