Actually, he does have a valid issue, he just didn't pose it correctly!

The official mythtv.org web page and documentation makes no mention of
the -fixes branch, so he'd have no way of knowing about it.  In fact,
he is following the official documentation exactly, which says "The
tarball release of MythTV should work on a wide variety of systems and
should be the preferred method for new users."   He is a new user, and
is used the preferred method!  I've opened a bug (6035)

Very good advice.  At least in this case, the official mythtv web page
mentions that such things exist, although I am quite willing to excuse
Greg for not realizing that there is a Ubuntu version because, while
other distributions are prominently listed, Mythbuntu is not.  I know
that a search would find it out, but people could easily be tricked
into not even searching for it since other distributions ARE listed).
