There is a few things that could make this work out really well.

1. Being able to request a recording from a backend in a specific
format and have it transcode to that format and send it down the wire.
This would be very useful for mythweb's FLV streaming.

2. Associated files and their cleanup. Say we have 123_122000000.mpg,
and we encode to mp4 for the iphone, so we have 123_122000000.mpg and
123_122000000.mp4, but when you delete the recording, only
123_122000000.mpg gets removed. Having the ability for it to clean up
multiple formats for a single show helps out streaming to a ipod/etc
device a ton.

3. Being able to record in a specific format. Currently myth only
records in a select few formats. Expanding this out so that people can
'record' into something else can help those who only have interest in
one specific format.

All three of these are often requested features, but only #2 is easy
to actually do.

I would be a ton more interested in #1 personally.
