[mythtv] Internal DVD player hangs after forward jump

This is a longstanding effect but it feels worse now because many other 
problems with the internal player have been solved:  thanks! It's 
content-dependent and seems unpredictable, with some recordings 
affected, others not.

When the frontend is started as 'mythfrontend' the terminal reports a 
continuing string of:

2008-04-02 22:59:19.203 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 10 times.

until it's killed.  Starting with 'mythfrontend -v playback' produces 
this sort of thing, again until killed:
