Yeah I discovered this shortly after my initial post (I thought I had
tried it but after actually *reading* my logs I realised that I'd
miscompiled :$ and hadn't included gl support - d'oh!
It seems to let me watch SD tv fine, scaling up to 1680x1050 and only
uses a relatively small amount of cpu (<30%) which is fine for now (this
is just my laptop not my primary UI).
While I don't know the full details, there is a "video" plugin for
compiz which exposes some degree of extra savings for Xv
implementations. I'm not quite sure what it adds as I really don't know
anything about it, but I know it makes videos play better on a patched
mplayer (works for me, and apparently works better for nvidia etc.). So
depending how the compiz video api develops, it may be worth adding
support at somepoint in the future. Time (and more knowledge than I
have) will tell :)
