First - are you sure you're running the same current-ish CVS on both machines?  
This would happen pre-0.17, and might possibly happen if the master and slave 
were out of sync slightly.

If that's not it, I'd need the _first_ occurance of 'Unknown command: <blah>' 
in the logfile.
